Wow! We have had an amazing 2nd week in Kenya. God is using us so much. We are being so blessed by all the things we are doing and the people we are meeting. There's much to be learned from Kenyans. They work hard, easy/quick to laugh, find joy in everything, and have patience with everyone.
In Kenya, somehow a few English words are mixed up. For instance, if you are looking for a place to stay for the night, you go to a 'restaurant'. If you are looking to sit down and eat a meal, you go to a 'hotel'.
Here are a few funny quotes from the week:
"You're not walking on the road, it's walking on you."-On a Care for AIDS day when we were walking alot on the red dirt roads and our host, the spiritual leader for the center we were doing home visits with, John, said this commenting on how red all our shoes had gotten.
"No. That one's not good. She just put the colors wherever she wanted to."-After I taught a preschool class how to make mosaics, the teacher was having them comment on all of them. One student bluntly stated on a classmate's work.
"I've got a bomb in my pocket. If you don't be quiet, I will use it."-David, the head of the LCC-K branch, was speaking to the children after we served them porridge. I asked him what he said to make them all be quiet. This was what he told them.
Here are some photos of a few projects we have been participating in:

Rainer and I have spent two mornings now at a baby home, In His Image. The 'mamas'/nurse workers, can always use a break, and the babies can't get enough loving. All the children are orphans and up for adoption. This is Moses. We got to meet his adoptive parents (from Amsterdam) that day.

This is Joshua and Jennifer. She was adopted that week!

Rainer feeding Moses. However, we later realized, with few helping hands to go around, these children learned very young (at least 8 months old) to hold up the bottle with their own hands!

Painting tables at the LCC-K branch (Limuru Children's Center- Kirimithu branch, a pre-school).

The teachers at the K-branch have welcomed me to teach art projects to the students. They showed me the lesson-plan book and I've worked off of that. This first week, I taught two of the classes to make mosaics. Rainer is a great helper too!

Helping them do mosaics of Mount Kenya.

Working on their project.

After the students do a project and they go up on the wall, the teachers have the students pick the best one.... then they all sing a song "we're all number one". :)

Rainer got his exercise this week playing soccer with the kids a couple times.

Rainer and I spent some afternoons at the LCC painting one of their new fences. It's tough to see in this photo, but it reads 'Jesus Loves You'.

We helped out with a big project. Ripping up 4 tables, all 1 foot deep in concrete, reconstructing them, then digging new holes and replacing them.

Rainer and Ryan working hard.

Sawing supports for the benches.
