Goodbye Kenya

What one thing did we expect from our time here? God to use us, and that He did. We were worn out at the end of everyday at projects. He taught us many things during our two months in Kenya. Rainer and I have grown so close to each other and in our own personal relationships with Christ. He showed us true compassion, unconditional love, expressive joy, and a consistent serving heart. We have made some incredible relationships both with those at the projects and with fellow volunteers. The people of Kenya will be on our minds and in our prayers from here on out.

Each week we have had a reflection time with our housemates and coordinators. This past week, our last week, we shared times that we were truly humbled here in Kenya and memories that will stay with us forever. Rainer spoke of the Care for AIDS home visits and learning the stories of each client, seeing the struggles physically and emotionally they face, and the overcoming joy and faith they have. As with the last time I left Kenya, the times I was most humbled and taught love was in my conversations with the moms at the LCC and LCC-K. They are incredible God loving women who selflessly serve and care for the boarders and other children every single day. God used us to serve others for His glory here in Kenya, which is complete and good in itself, but He also taught and showed Rainer and I many things that will be with us for the rest of our lives.

I discovered a love of teaching while here. My times of getting to know the kids at the LCC-K branch and showing them love through art were some of my favorites.

Rainer was challenged by having the opportunity to teach a few times during our time here. He is definitely blessed with this gift and loves sharing God’s word.

Me and Jane 1, one of the moms (there are more than one Janes so she calls herself Jane 1….. however, as of right now, there is only Jane 1, Jane 2 and Jane 5…. Haha)
