Pula, Croatia

We camped at the beach! Pula is in the northern part of the country, right on the Adriatic Sea. The first day, while the students were doing laundry and quiet time, Rainer and I went and found out that Croatia had the most expensive grocery store prices we had seen yet on the trip. This meant I had to cut way back on food. What could buy 6 loaves of bread in England could only get 2 in Pula. That afternoon, we all went swimming and hung out at the beach.

The huge campground had all kinds of activities- including an aqua-park (that Rainer and I enjoyed of course) and an amphitheatre where they showed outdoor movies and our students put on a great performance one night (just before the Slovenian disco party). We also saw one of the most gorgeous sunsets.

Pula was once a big Roman port city and has a lot of Italian influence. It not only resembles Venice and all the restaurants serve pizza and pastas, but it has a Roman coliseum as well. The students performed in two different locations, finishing right in front of a temple for Caesar Augustus, built in 2 B.C. There were lots of interested people in Pula watching the dramas and dances, some following us to watch both performances.

Rainer beat me to the top of the aqua-mountain, before we jumped off the other side
