Holiday in Cinque Terra
Meaning five earths/lands/towns, Cinque Terra is made up of five small fishing villages built into the rock cliffs/walls on the Mediterranean side of Italy. We trained from Switzerland, through Milan, and south to one of the five towns- Riomagggiore (still can’t say it right). We spent three days not doing much… sleeping, reading, eating, laundry, laying out on the ‘beach’ (read: rocks), reading, swimming, eating and sleeping more. It was great! The small town was quiet and literally went to sleep at night. We ended up eating at 4 of the 8 restaurants by the end of our stay. For breakfast- it was a slice of cheesy bread (for sale in every other shop location along the main street), lunch- pasta and fruit, dinner- fish or meat, veggie and pasta. Yum. With the town being built into the side of the hill, it was steep! We had to move rooms after 1 night stay do to a glitch in the booking companies’ rooms system. Our 2nd room was up 105 stairs! Straight up! It was hilarious climbing them with our backpacks on. But it was worth it….because the top rooms have balconies.
Beautiful train ride through Switzerland and northern Italy

We both forced each other to try the fried version of the local 'specialty' .... anchovies.... result = not fans.

Rainer headed up some of the 105 steps!
Crazy closet bathroom. Had to step over the bidet to get to the toilet.
