Lausanne, Switzerland

We spent our last day in the neutral country, riding around Lake Geneva up to Lausanne in a train. After a traditional lunch at McDonalds, it was off to a rainy stroll around the water’s edge, then to the Olympic museum. This was really cool. They had the torches and videos from the Olympic flame relays and opening ceremonies; artifacts dating back to the original Olympics around 500 B.C. (before the games were brought back in the beginning of the 20th century); tickets, mascots, and other marketing materials; memorabilia from both winter and summer games (including Shannon Miller’s 1994 Atlanta gymnastic outfit and a suit from Michael Phelps’ Sydney triumphs); and cool videos with key scenes of broken records, huge defeats and even bigger victors. That night we found an outdoor movie theater on the lake, and enjoyed the film with complimentary “don’t worry” ponchos gifted by the theater.
